Offensive Player of the Week

Teddy Stucker, Brownstown Central

 

The Brownstown Central senior made it clear from the first play fo the game -- he would be in charge of the Class 2A Regional. Stucker took the handoff on the first play of the Braves' regional matchup with Southridge and took it 74 yards for a score and Brownstown never looked back. Stucker then -- along with the BC offensive line -- dominated the line of scrimmage. He finished with 174 yards on 25 carries and scored twice as BC advanced with a 26-7 upset victory over the Raiders. He also completed a 27-yard pass in the triumph.

Defensive Player of the Week
Logan Perry, Columbus East

The Olympians' unsung hero all season, Perry made his prescence known in East's biggest win of the season -- a 24-7 Regional Championship victory over Jasper. Perry finished with a team-high seven tackles, including four solo tackles, plus two tackles for loss in East's win over the Wildcats.

Blaze Hurley

Brownstown Central

 

Hurley rushed for two touchdowns on offense. On defense, the Brownstown senior had four tackles, three tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries in the Braves' 26-7 win over Southridge.

Mitch Dwenger

Columbus East

 

Dwenger picked the perfect time for his best performances of the season. In the Olympians' 24-7 Regional win over Jasper, Dwenger finished with six tackles and a tackle for a loss.

Dusty Kiel

Columbus East

 

Kiel threw for 95 yards and rushed for another 161 as East won its second regional championship in three years, 24-7 over Jasper.

Cam Cockerham

Brownstown Central

 

As BC's quarterback, Cockerham didn't attempt a pass. On defense, however, the senior had six tackles and a fumble recovery that he returned 81 yards to seal the Braves' victory.

Andrew Allman

Brownstown Central

 

Allman had a co-team-high six tackles and also had a quarterback sack as the Braves' defense dominated Southridge in their 26-7 Regional championship.

Devon Davis

Columbus East

 

The ITG "Defensive Player of the Year" had another big game with six tackles, a quarterback sack and an interception in East's 24-7 Regional win over Jasper.

Offensive Player of the Week

Blaze Hurley, Brownstown Central

 

Hurley had his third big game in Sectional 31 play, this time leading the Braves to the sectional crown with a 28-21 win over Paoli. Hurley led the Braves with 157 total yards (101 rushing and 56 receiving) and scored twice in the contest. His second score was the eventual game-winner -- a four-yard run late in the third quarter.

Defensive Player of the Week
Devon Davis, Columbus East

The ITG "Defensive Player of the Year" is also this week's "Player of the Week." In East's 28-12 Sectional 15 championship win over East Central, the steady Davis had a team-high 10 tackles, including seven solo tackles. He also had a quarterback sack and a tackle for loss in the Olympian's twelfth straight victory.

Edward Baker

Jeffersonville

 

Even in the Red Devils' 49-39 loss to Castle in the Sectional 8 championship game, Baker may have had the best game of his senior season, scoring five touchdowns, rushing for 129 yards and passing for another 144.

Logan Mills

Brownstown Central

 

Mills had a team-high and season-high 12 tackles, helping lead Brownstown Central to its eighth sectional championship in school history, 28-21 over Paoli. Mills also had a tackle for loss and a quarterback sack.

Duwyce Wilson

Columbus East

 

Wilson caught six passes for 113 yards -- going over 1,000 yards receiving on the season -- and scored twice as the Olympians beat East Central, 28-12, to win Sectional 15.

Tyler Ray

Jeffersonville

 

Ray caught three passes -- all for first downs -- for a team-high 96 yards in the Red Devils' 49-39 Sectional 8 title game loss to Castle.

Stucker led Brownstown with 159 yards on 25 carries and scored two touchdowns as the Braves topped Paoli, 28-21, for the Sectional 31 title.

The ITG "Player of the Year" completed 15 of 21 passes for 243 yards and three first-half touchdowns as East won the Sectional 15 title, 28-12 over East Central.

Joseph Daniel

Jeffersonville

Offensive Player of the Week

Jamie Goldsmith, Jeffersonville

 

With 227 yards on Friday, Goldsmith became his school's all-time leading rusher. More importantly, the senior's three scores helped lead the Red Devils past Floyd Central, 42-17, and into the Sectional 8 championship game next Friday. Goldsmith broke open a close game with two long TD runs -- of 70 and 63 yards -- in the fourth quarter to put the game away and the Devils into the title game against Castle.

Defensive Player of the Week
Chris Hinton, Brownstown Central

Hinton, an All-Area First Team performer on the offensive line, has shown his defensive prowess, becoming the first back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week honoree. In Friday's 30-26 win over Indian Creek, Hinton -- despite being physically ill during the contest -- had two quarterback sacks, including the game-clinching sack on fourth down on IC's final drive of the game.

Columbus East

 

McLaurine led the Olympians with 142 rushing yards and a score in East's easy 42-6 win over Madison in Friday's Sectional 15 semifinal.

Edward Baker

Jeffersonville

 

Baker threw for a career-high 237 yards and also rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns in Jeff's 42-17 Sectional 8 semifinal victory over Floyd Central.

Blaze Hurley

Brownstown Central

 

Hurley scored all four of Brownstown's touchdowns, including a game-winning 11-yarder in the final minutes to lead the Braves to a 30-26 win over Indian Creek in the Sectional 31 semifinal.

Dusty Kiel

Columbus East

 

Kiel completed 7 of 11 passes for 174 yards and two touchdown passes to Duwyce Wilson as East knocked off Madison on its way to the Sectional 15 championship game.

Ethen Roberts

Columbus East

 

In just two defensive series, Roberts had three solo tackles and a quarterback sack in the Olympians' 42-6 win over Madison on Friday.

Jeffersonville

 

Tatgenhorst had a team-high 10 tackles -- including eight solos -- plus three tackles for loss in Jeffersonville's 42-17 win over Floyd Central.

Mat Lowe

Floyd Central

 

In Floyd Central's 42-17 loss to Jeffersonville, Lowe had a career-high 222 yards on 28 carries and he scored on a 49-yard run. He also had 11 tackles and a quarterback sack.

Cory Houser

Charlestown

 

In his final game, Houser had 13 tackles, a quarterback sack and an interception in Charlestown's 32-6 Sectional 23 semifinal loss to Heritage Hills.

Ryan Leasor

Madison

 

Leasor had 12 tackles and a tackle for loss in Madison's season-ending 42-6 loss to Columbus East in Friday's Sectional 15 semifinal.

Ethan Martin

Brownstown Central

Nate Weber, Madison

 

In Madison's first shutout win in nearly two decades, Weber's offensive prowess stole the show in Madison's 35-0 Sectional 15 first-round win over South Dearborn. Weber caught three passes from junior QB Zach Zehren for 116 yards. He also had a 38-yard TD run and a 34-yard kickoff return. Weber also had seven tackles and a tackle for loss on defense.

Defensive Player of the Week
Chris Hinton, Brownstown Central

In the Braves' best team defensive performance of the season, Hinton also had his finest performance in Brownstown Central's 17-7 Sectional 31-opening win over Providence. Hinton had a team- and season-high 11 tackles, including four solo tackles, as the Braves held the high-powered Pioneer offense to 305 total yards.

Josh Graham

Charlestown

 

Graham rushed for a game- and team-high 150 yards on just 10 carries, leading the Pirates to a first-round Sectional 23 win over North Harrison. He also scored twice in the victory.

Dusty Kiel

Columbus East

 

Kiel completed 8 of 12 passes for 310 yards and two scores, and added 71 rushing yards as the Olympians beat Seymour, 42-14 in the opening round of Sectional 15 action.

Jarrett Brownfield

Columbus North

 

The Bull Dog junior rushed for 82 yards and completed 12 of 16 passes for 138 yards, but North couldn't overcome Bloomington South in a 40-37 overtime loss.

Blaze Hurley

Brownstown Central

 

Hurley led the Braves in both rushing and receiving with 152 total yards and he had five tackles for loss on defene in Brownstown's key 17-7 win over Providence.

Chris Ball

Madison

 

Ball had a team-high 14 tackles and two tackles for loss in Madison's big 35-0 win over South Dearborn in the opening round of Sectional 15 action.

Aaron Sparks

Floyd Central

 

Sparks helped lead the Highlanders to a 23-14 upset win over Bedford North Lawrence in Sectional's 8 first round with 159 rushing, and a TD on the ground and through the air.

Ryan Tandy

Eastern

 

Tandy had a game-high 114 rushing yards and TD runs of two and 38 yards, but it wasn't enough as the Musketeers fell to Mitchell 16-14 in Sectional 31's opening round.

Brandon Dunaway

Corydon Central

 

The junior caught 10 passes for 104 yards and a score on offense and had 11 tackles on defense in a Sectional 23 opening-round loss to 9-1 Edgewood.

Adam Parella

Jeffersonville

 

In just his second game back from an injury, Parella caught two touchdown passes for 30 yards as Jeff topped Jennings County, 40-8 in the first round of Sectional 8 action.

Tyler Merchant

Clarksville

 

Merchant scored Clarksville's only touchdown on a 33-yard pass from Drew Farney in the Generals' 40-8 loss to Indian Creek in the opening round of Sectional 31 play.

Michael Hooker

Columbus North

 

Hooker had a team-high 16 tackles, but the Bull Dogs fell to rival Bloomington South 40-37 in overtime in the opening round of Sectional 7 play.

Clayton Miller

Columbus East

 

Miller caught an 81-yard TD pass from Dusty Kiel in East's 42-14 win over Seymour. He also had six tackles and two quarterbacks sacks on defense.

Robert Baker

Salem

 

The junior had a team-high 14 tackles and also defended a pass in Salem's 28-0 Sectional 23 defeat at the hands of Heritage Hills.

Tyler Tagenhorst

Jeffersonville

 

Tatgenhorst had six tackles, two tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry as Jeffersonville had little trouble with Jennings County, 40-8, in Sectional 8 action.

Spencer Corrao, Providence

 

Filling in for one of the state's leading rushers, the Pioneer sophomore was far from second rate. In his first start at tailback, Corrao carried the ball 25 times for 289 yards and four touchdowns as Providence beat rival Clarksville for the first time in four tries, 63-24, to capture the Clarksville City Championship.

Defensive Player of the Week
Kreigh Holstine, Salem

Holstine has been the leader of one of Indiana's best defenses all season. On Friday -- in the Lions' 50-12 win over Mitchell -- the Salem junior intercepted his first pass and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown. In limited action, Holstine had three solo tackles and an assist. He also scored a touchdown on offense.

Columbus East

 

In East's HHC-clinching 44-6 win over Bedford North Lawrence, the Olympian senior had his best performance of the season with 189 yards and four touchdowns on just 14 carries.

Brandon Polbito

Seymour

 

The Owl senior had his third stellar performance in a row with 182 yards from scrimmage, a team-high eight tackles and his fourth interception in three games.

Matt Bruderle

North Harrison

 

In a 34-27 loss to Crawford County, Bruderle -- just a sophomore -- rushed for 317 yards and three touchdowns and tossed a 15-yard TD pass to Michael Cundiff.

Jarrett Brownfield

Columbus North

 

Brownfield completed 21 of 35 passes for a season-high 263 yards and rushed and threw for touchdowns in the Bull Dogs' 21-16 loss to Southport.

Tyler Ray

Jeffersonville

 

Ray led the Red Devils with four receptions for 59 yards and also scored on a 33-yard pass from Edward Baker in Jeff's 35-7 win over Jennings County.

Michael Givans

Eastern

 

Givans had completed 3 of 5 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns in the Musketeers' 24-18 loss to Eastern Greene. He also had a team-high 59 yards on the ground.

Blaze Hurley

Brownstown Central

 

Hurley had 188 total yards --116 rushing and 72 receiving -- in Brownstown Central's 41-21 win over West Washington. He scored twice through the air and once on the ground.

Clayton Miller

Columbus East

 

Miller led a stellar defensive performance with eight tackles and a tackle for loss in the Olympians' 44-6 HHC-clinching win over Bedford North Lawrence.

Daniel Deerr

Floyd Central

 

Deerr scored the Highlanders' game-winning touchdown on a 29-yard TD run with 2:39 remaining to help Floyd to a 35-34 upset win over New Albany. He had 72 yards on eight carries.

Cameron Metzger

Charlestown

 

In his first game since Week 4, the All-State performer had 86 yards rushing and another 21 receiving in the Pirates' 28-14 loss to Lawrenceburg.

Brett Martin

New Albany

 

In a 35-34 loss to Floyd Central, Martin caught six passes for 136 yards and a touchdown to continue his amazing senior season.

Christian Betz

Providence

 

Betz connected on six extra points and also had his first interception of the season in Providence's 63-24 win over rival Clarksville.

Erik Moorman

Bedford North Lawrence

 

Moorman scored all six of the Stars' points -- connecting on field goals of 29 and 31 yards in Bedford's 44-6 loss to HHC champion Columbus East.

Matt Walker

Jennings County

 

Walker had a team-high 10 tackles -- including seven solos -- and had a quarterback sack in the Panthers' 35-7 loss to Jeffersonville.

Eric Zink, Salem

 

The Salem senior had his best game of the season -- by far -- and it couldn't have come at a better time. Zink carried the ball 19 times for 183 yards and scored four times, helping Salem past Corydon Central, 51-14, and to its second Mid-Southern Conference championship in four seasons. Zink scored three touchdowns in the second half as the Lions pulled away from the Panthers.

For the second straight week, the Floyd Central junior had 20-plus tackles on defense. This week, however, the Highlanders won, ending a four-game losing streak with a 31-12 over Jennings County. This week, he also had a quarterback sack, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble to go along with his 21 tackles.

Bedford North Lawrence

 

Perry had 205 yards rushing on just 10 carries and 91 yards passing in BNL's 47-7 win over Madison. The junior scored twice on the ground and threw two TD passes -- all in the third quarter.

Cam Cockerham

Brownstown Central

 

The Braves senior signal caller completed 10 of 14 passes for 271 yards and threw four touchdown passes as Brownstown clinched a share of the MSC championship with a 55-0 win over Eastern.

Devon Davis

Columbus East

 

Davis had a team-high 10 tackles and a season-high four tackles for loss as the Olympians clinched their fifth straight HHC crown with a 34-6 win over Jeffersonville.

Clarksville

 

Bowens had a game- and career-high 300 rushing yards and scored three times in Clarksville's 44-20 victory over Crawford County.

New Albany

 

Brown had his second straight stellar performance, completing 22 of 34 passes for 330 yards and four touchdowns in New Albany's 48-41 triple-overtime win over Seymour.

Brandon Polbito

Seymour

 

Polbito scored three times in Seymour's 48-41 triple-overtime loss to New Albany, including a 106-yard interception return for a TD in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.

Damon Vest

Charlestown

 

The Pirates' senior quarterback broke open a 25-7 MSC-championship-clinching victory over North Harrison with 129 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Dusty Kiel

Columbus East

 

Kiel completed 11 of 19 passes for 218 yards and three touchdowns and had a team-high 128 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground, accounting for all 5 East TD's.

Ryan Stearns

Jennings County

 

Stearns caught eight passes for 101 yards -- both season highs -- and scored both of the Panthers' TDs on passes from Kevin Collinsworth in JC's 31-12 loss to Floyd Central.

Ryan Fish

Madison

 

Fish had a season-high and team-high 86 yards rushing, including a 44-yard TD run in the fourth quarter of Madison's 47-7 loss to Bedford North Lawrence.

Wes Sama

Salem

 

Salem led the Lions with nine tackles, including seven solos, in their 51-14 MSC-championship-clinching win over Corydon Central. He also had a tackle for a loss.

Daniel Deerr

Floyd Central

 

Deerr had a season- and game-high 136 rushing yards in the Highlanders' 31-12 victory over Jennings County. He also scored on a 34-yard run in the first quarter.

Jordan Crosier

Corydon Central

 

Crosier had a season high seven tackles -- all solos -- in the Panthers' 51-14 loss to Salem.

Jeffersonville

 

The Jeffersonville sophomore had 96 yards of total offense and a fumble recovery on defense in Jeff's 34-6 loss to Columbus East.

Ryan Tandy

Tandy led the Musketeers with 45 rushing yards on offense and six tackles on defense in their 55-0 loss to Brownstown Central.

North Harrison

 

Snook led the Cougars with 11 tackles in North Harrison's 25-7 loss to Charlestown. Snook also had two tackles for loss in the defeat.

Jarrett Brownfield

Columbus North

 

Brownfield led the Bulldogs with 118 rushing yards and 108 passing yards, but North fell to Bloomington South, 28-14 in Conference Indiana action.

Corrao had a team- and season-high 146 yards on 21 carries in Providence's 47-21 loss to Tecumseh. He also scored on a 15-yard third-quarter run.

Graham Brown, New Albany

 

The New Albany senior quarterback had the game of his life in the Bulldogs' thrilling 31-28 victory over rival Jeffersonville on Friday. Not only did Brown throw for 282 yards and four touchdowns, but he also led his offense on an 86-yard drive that culminated with Zach Litzelswope's game-winning 26-yard field goal. Brown also led the Bulldogs with 36 yards on the ground.

Carrico caught two passes -- both for touchdowns -- for 80 yards in BNL's 35-7 win over Floyd Central. He also had a 70-yard punt return for a score and an interception.

Brandon Polbito

Seymour

 

Polbito Seymour's first three touchdowns in the Owls' 33-6 win over Jennings County. He scored on runs of 3, 11 and 17 yards in the victory.

Zach Litzelswope

New Albany

 

Litzelswope made all five of his kicks, including a 26-yard field goal in the final minute of New Albany's 31-28 win over rival Jeffersonville.

Austin Streeval

Columbus North

 

Streeval had a season-high 132 yards on 21 carries as North defeated Perry Meridian 31-21. He scored on runs of 3, 21 and 11 yards in the victory.

Wes Sama

Salem

 

Sama led the Lions with 12 tackles as the Lion defense held an explosive Charlestown team to 13 points in their 18-13 key Mid-Southern Conference win over the Pirates.

Levi Simpson

North Harrison

 

Simpson had two catches for 72 yards on offense and six tackles, an interception and a blocked punt on defense in North Harrison's big 45-18 win over Eastern.

Ethan Cook

Providence

 

The senior had another big game with 267 of Providence's 413 rushing yards in the Pioneers' 54-35 win over Evansville Bosse. He scored four times.

Coley Brown

Brownstown Central

 

Brown caught a season-high five passes for a season-high 120 yards in the Braves' 63-26 win over Clarksville. He also caught a TD pass from QB Cam Cockerham.

Corey Bowens

Clarksville

 

In a 63-26 loss to Brownstown Central, Bowens had a game-high and season-high 207 yards on 21 carries. He scored twice, including a 60-yard TD run.

Ethen Roberts

Columbus East

 

Roberts caught his first touchdown pass of the season and led the Olympians with 10 tackles, including seven solos, in East's 75-14 win over Madison.

Matt Walker

Jennings County

 

Walker led all tacklers in the Panthers' 33-6 loss to Seymour. He had two solos and 14 assists for a season-high 16 tackles in the loss.

Matt Lowe

Floyd Central

 

Lowe had a season-high 21 tackles, including nine solos, in Floyd Central's 35-7 loss to Bedford North Lawrence. He also had three tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

Christian Chastain

Salem

 

Chastain threw for a score and ran for another in Salem's 18-13 win over Charlestown. The sophomore finished with 49 total yards from scrimmage.

Trevor Gordon

New Albany

 

Gordon caught two Graham Brown touchdown passes in the second quarter of New Albany's 31-28 win over Jeffersonville. He finished with 118 yards on three receptions.

Jacob Snook

North Harrison

 

Snook had six tackles, a tackle for loss, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt in North Harrison's big 45-18 win over Eastern.

Caleb Browner

Jeffersonville

 

Browner intercepted a New Albany pass and returned it 20 yards for a touchdowns. The score wasn't enough in Jeff's 31-28 heartbreaking loss to the Bulldogs.

Nate Weber

Madison

 

Weber caught four passes for 47 yards and returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown in Madison's 75-14 loss to top-ranked Columbus East.

Lucas Windell

Corydon Central

 

The Panther freshman led Corydon Central with 52 yards rushing on just three carries in the Panthers' 47-6 loss to unbeaten Paoli.

Offensive Player of the Week

Josh Graham, Charlestown

 

Graham scored seven touchdowns -- six in the first half -- as the Pirates beat Corydon Central, 55-23. The junior rushed for three touchdowns in the first quarter and two more in the second. He also returned a fumble 32 yards for a score in the second. He scored the third quarter's only points on a 3-yard run. He finished with 162 yards on the ground and 45 receiving yards in the Pirates' victory.

Defensive Player of the Week

Evan Lindsey, Jeffersonville

 

Lindsey preserved a Jeffersonville win over Providence with an interception return of 103 yards with :36 remaining in the Red Devils' 33-20 win over the Pioneers. Perry had his finest performance as the Stars quarterback in BNL's 28-7 win over Jennings County. He completed 5 of 6 passes for 32 yards and rushed for 146 yards. He scored twice on the ground.

Goldsmith rushed for 277 yards on 38 carries and scored Jeff's first three touchdowns in helping the Red Devils to a 33-20 win over Providence.

Kamman caught two first-quarter passes for touchdowns from 22 and 55 yards out in the Olympians' 62-0 win over Floyd Central.

Even in a 38-16 loss to Pike, Hooker had a big game on defense with a team-high 11 tackles and a tackle for a safety in the first quarter.

In Corydon Central's first victory of the season -- a 56-13 win over Eastern -- the senior quarterback completed 25 of 35 passes for 359 and an area-season-best seven touchdowns. Three of those went to Brandon Dunaway and two more to Garrett Ross as the Panthers rolled up 445 yards of total offense in the triumph.

Ball led a strong Madison defensive performance as the Cubs earned their first victory of the season, ending a 16-game losing streak with a 22-19 win over Jennings County. Ball led Madison with 14 tackles, including two tackles for loss in the win.

Cook had 287 yards on the ground as Providence knocked off unbeaten Charlestown, 44-13. Cook also had an 11-yard TD run in the win. Cook has 618 yards rushing in his last two games.

Goldsmith had another enormous performance in Jeffersonville's 40-13 win over Floyd Central. He wracked up 287 rushing yards and scored three times. He's the first area back to reach 1,000 yards with 1,072 after five games.

Zehren completed 8 of 15 passes for 171 yards and the game-winning TD pass to Chris Ball with 6:36 remaining in Madison's 22-19 win over Jennings County.

Dunaway caught six passes for 94 yards and a career-high three touchdowns as the Panthers earned their first victory, 56-13 over Eastern.

The Stars' third-string quarterback came in early in the first quarter and led BNL to a come-from-behind 34-33 double-overtime win over Jeffersonville in its Hoosier Hills Conference opener. Korvela rushed for 113 yards on 28 carries and scored three second-half touchdowns. He also completed 5 of 12 passes for 67 yards in his backup role.

Ringo had two more interceptions, both of which set up Columbus East touchdowns, as the Olympians won their Hoosier Hills Conference opener 44-14 over Seymour. He also had a solo tackle and a tipped pass in the win. The senior now has three interceptions and a fumble recovery this season for a stout East defense, which has allowed just 17 points in three games.
