Girls Player of the Week

Chelsea Jones, Austin

If Jones’ injured foot is still bothering her, it didn’t show on Saturday. The Austin sophomore scored 55 points in two games, leading the Eagles to their first Regional championship since 1999. In the opening round 65-52 win over Tell City, Jones led all scorers with 26 points. In the victory, despite being just a sophomore, Jones became Austin’s all-time career leader with 117 3-point shots made. Jones then shot Austin to a 67-62 championship game victory over Eastern Greene with a game-high 29 points.

Boys Player of the Week

William Barber, New Albany

For the first time in over a month, New Albany struggled to put a team away. Then, Barber came to the rescue for the unbeaten, top-ranked Bulldogs. His 26 points led them to a 75-50 victory over Bedford North Lawrence and their second straight Hoosier Hills Conference championship. After scoring 13 points in the first half, the New Albany senior scored 13 points in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs outscored the Stars 33-14 in the period. Barber shot 8 for 12 from the field and 7 for 7 from the line and secured his spot on the ITG “Super Six” team.
