Girls Player of the Week

Shaylee Brown, Salem

Brown led Salem to its first Mid-Southern Conference win of the season, a 60-45 victory over Brownstown Central on Thursday. Brown hit 11 of her 21 field goal attempts, including four of seven from the 3-point line, scoring a season-high 30 points. “She’s been struggling. We’ve all been struggling,” Salem coach Wade Tomlinson said. “She hasn’t been playing up to her potential, but on Thursday she played extremely hard. I was happy with how hard she played.”

Boys Player of the Week

Kagney Fritz, Brownstown Central

Fritz had his finest game of the season on Friday and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The Brownstown Central senior scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds – both game highs – as the Braves picked up their first victory of the season, 56-54 over Scottsburg. Fritz, who also had an assist and a steal, hit 11 of his 28 field goal attempts and six of his nine foul shots in the victory. More importantly, the senior came up big down the stretch in the fourth quarter to help the Braves to the Mid-Southern Conference win.
