Creek tops Mitchell, 63-57

The dark horse isn’t ready to be put out to pasture yet.

 

The Silver Creek boys’ basketball team — widely regarded as a potential spoiler for favored Charlestown in the bottom of the bracket — managed to avoid an upset on Tuesday, beating Mitchell 63-57 in a first-round matchup at the Class 3A North Harrison Sectional. Full Story

PANTHERS TOP COUGARS FOR THIRD TIME

Corydon moves on to Sectional 30 quarterfinal, 52-42

In a rare occasion in boys high school basketball, rivals Corydon Central and North Harrison met three times in 2007-08.

 

Corydon Central took all three wins, beating the Cougars 52-42 in Wednesday's Sectional 30 quarterfinal. The Panthers outscored the the Cougars 36-26 in the second half after the score was tied at 16 at the half. Full Story

RAMS PULL AWAY FROM HURTING EAGLES

Paoli advance to Friday's Sectional 47 semifinal

Despite having several players nursing injuries, Austin hung with heavily-favored Paoli for more than a half.

 

The Eagles led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter and were tied with the 16-4 Rams at the half, but Paoli pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles 15-8 on its way to a 62-53 victory. Full Story

CLARKSVILLE HANGS ON TO TOP SENATORS

Generals get the job done in overtime, 55-52

Two teams with almost identical records, and it's sectional time.

 

What more could you expect than a battle to the end and then some?

 

Landon Glidewell's basket with 23 seconds left in overtime, plus Ryan Gettlefinger's free throw four seconds later, provided the winning margin as Clarksville turned back West Washington 55-52 on Wednesday. Full Story

CAI FALLS TO LANESVILLE

Walter, Eagles move on to semifinals, 58-54

The Warriors were strong in the opening quarter and a half, pulling to a 15-6 advantage in the second period. The Eagles pulled back, as 6-foot-4 center Tom Walter bullied his way underneath for eight points in the frame to help give Lanesville a 27-25 halftime edge.

 

“Our offense was not in sync early,” said Lanesville coach Mikel Miller. “Tom started to get us going with some buckets inside and it settled us a little bit.” Full Story

BORDEN CRUISES PAST HENRYVILLE

Braves avenge earlier loss, advance with 70-46 win

Lee Kirchgessner scored a career-high 23 points and reserves Dalton Waggoner and Michael Chester also reached double figures as the Braves avenged a regular season loss with a big win over their rival, 70-46.
