NEW ALBANY DOWNS REITZ

Captures Regional Crown

By Kevin Harris of The Evening News & Tribune

Ever since class basketball was implemented in 1998, the regional has been a major stumbling block for the New Albany boys’ basketball team.

Not anymore.

The Class 4A No. 1 Bulldogs finally leaped over the regional hurdle on Tuesday night at Scott Gym, defeating Evansville Reitz in the Seymour Regional final, 67-46. New Albany (26-0) will face Brownsburg (20-5) in the Southport Semistate at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday. Full Story

Matt Cress commentary: New Albany does it the only way it knows how

Class A at North Daviess

Borden 46, Orleans 42

BORDEN WINS FIRST-EVER REGIONAL

By Mike Hutsell of The Evening News & Tribune

Smiles, tears, hugs and high-fives — everything looked so similar, but the exuberation may have been much greater.

On the floor at North Daviess High School Tuesday, Borden was back doing something it had never done before.

A week after winning the first sectional title in school history, the Braves were back at it, this time winning their first-ever regional title by eclipsing Class A No. 2 Orleans, 46-42. Full Story

Class 3A at Washington

Evansville Memorial 64, Charlestown 50

PIRATES STUMBLE AT REGIONAL

No. 1 Memorial too much, 64-50

By Matthew Cress of The Evening News & Tribune

Through the rain, snow, wind and ice, it turned out that actually playing the game wasn’t the problem.

For the Charlestown boys’ basketball team, it was the lack of stoppages that hurt the most.

The Pirates did not attempt a free throw on Saturday, watching Evansville Memorial go 14-of-20 from the stripe in a 64-50 loss in the first semifinal of the Class 3A Washington Regional. Full Story

Cress commentary: Charlestown deserved better
