Columbus East vs. Bloomington North ANOTHER UPSET IN SECTIONAL 14 Poor third quarter costs East in 54-47 loss to Bloomington North By Greg Mengelt of Inside the Game
Columbus East was outscored 18-2 in the second quarter and its comeback bid fell short in a 54-47 Sectional 14 semifinal loss to Bloomington North.
East led 25-21 at halftime before managing just two points in the third and trailed 39-27 at the end of the third quarter. East hit just one of nine shots from the field in the third quarter.
The Olympians got back within 49-45 with a minute to play, but Darwin Davis hit three foul shots in the final 34 seconds to put the game away.
North sophomore Ray McCallum, Jr., led all scorers with 21 points. Davis added 11 points for the Cougars.
Duwyce Wilson led East with 17 points and six steals. He went 5 for 5 from the floor. Ryan Crase had 10.
The loss ended the Olympians' 10-game losing streak and brings their final season record to 15-5.
North (12-9) will face the winner of the second semifinal between Columbus North and East Central, which upset Bloomington South on Tuesday. |
