Eastern 45, Brownstown Central 43

MUSKETEERS ADVANCE, 45-43

Eastern takes come-from-behind win over Braves

By Greg Mengelt of Inside the Game

Eastern trailed nearly the entire game, but a Clayton Starrett 3-point play gave the Musketeers their first second-half lead with 2:39 left and the Musketeers went on to a 45-43 victory.

Brownstown had a chance to tie the score at the buzzer. Following an Eric Powers free throw that gave Eastern a 45-43 lead and a timeout, Ryan Shoemaker hit Kagney Fritz under the basket with the inbound pass. As Fritz went up for the shot, Eastern senior Nate Wade stripped him and the clock ran out.

After the score was tie 9-9 at the end of the first quarter, Brownstown outscored the Musketeers 15-8 in the second quarter, capped by Taylor Wischmeier's 3-pointer at the buzzer that gave the Braves a 24-17 lead.

Eastern cut the lead to 35-32 at the end of the third period.

Starrett led all scorers with 20 points. Fritz led the Braves with 14.

Eastern (15-6) will face 18-4 Paoli in Saturday's Sectional 47 championship game. The Rams were 73-62 winners of Clarksville on Saturday, turning a six-point halftime deficit into the 11-point win.

Paoli won at Eastern, 66-63 on Jan. 12.

Brownstown's season ends with a 13-9 mark.
