Madison 52, Franklin County 45
SECTIONAL 28 FINAL WILL FEATURE TWO DEFENDING
CHAMPIONS
Poor third quarter costs East in 54-47 loss to Bloomington North By Greg Mengelt of Inside the Game
Defending sectional champions Madison (10-11) and Batesville (21-2) will meet for the 2008 Sectional 28 title on Saturday.
Due to realignment, the Cubs and Bulldogs, who also won a regional title in 2007, will be forced to face each other for the crown.
After third-ranked Batesville knocked off
South Dearborn, 41-30 in the first semifinal, Madison
was a 52-45 winner of Franklin County in Game 2. Madison jumped out to a big lead, holding the Wildcats to two points in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Cubs were outscored 14-12, but still held a 22-16 halftime edge. After the game's first bucket, the Cubs were never tied and never trailed.
Logan Jones led all scorers with 20 points. Brandon Hicks added 11 for the Cubs.
Madison's win over Franklin County ended a 3-game losing streak vs. the Wildcats. The two teams no longer face each other in the regular season since being assigned to the same sectional. Franklin County's season ends with an 8-13 record.
Alex Grimsley scored 15 points and Colt Ryan 11 in Batesville's win. The Bulldogs hit 22 of 28 free throws to pull away from South Dearborn in the fourth quarter. The Knights' finish 5-16 this season. |
